The Barnes Children’s Literary Festival is celebrating its 5th anniversary this year with a host of fantastic events and a fabulous cohort of authors – all to encourage in children a love of books.
UK Children’s Laureate, Lauren Child (pictured top), creator of Charlie and Lola¸Clarice Bean and Ruby Redfort will be introducing her latest character, child genius, Hubert Horatio. The best-selling writer, Jeremy Strong (pictured middle), author of more than 100 books will be joined by his characters, the cardigan-wearing Armadillo and the tuba-playing Hare, as they ponder the meaning of life and cheese sandwiches. And Jessie Burton will be hosting a fun fairy tale event, while describing how her first children’s book The Restless Girls came about, after the huge successes of her adult novels, The Miniaturist and The Muse.
As well as authors, Aardman Animations will be model making Shaun the Sheep, there will be Matilda Musical Theatre workshops and Elmer the Elephant will be leading a story and song session.
There are lots of events over the whole weekend, including theatre and singing workshops and outdoor theatre trail.
